How was English Auctioneer chosen? |
The judging panel uses the case file built by their research team and any supporting evidence submitted by the nominee to make the decision as to who is successful in the programme. Dedicated researchers used merit-orientated research via the public domain, taking into consideration a number of different factors. Once finalised, the file wass presented to the judges for their consideration. To move successfully from nominee to winner there must be evidence of expertise within a given field, dedication to customer service and client satisfaction with an ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation. |
The right auctioneer DOES make a difference. Tension and anticipation are essential to an auction, and the pace must be set by the auctioneer, not the crowd. At cattle and car auctions the tempo and tone reach a pitch that is inappropriate for charity auctions, and it would intimidate the audience.
If you are planning a charity auction, remember that a “free,” or volunteer auctioneer is very seldom free. The right auctioneer doesn’t cost you Money, he makes you Money!!
“I am more than just a ‘bid taker.’ I set the pace and turn the auction into a fun and memorable event. This is especially important to the majority of the crowd who, let’s be honest, are not there for the auction.
When you hire me, you get more than just an auctioneer, you get an active participant who has years of experience on auction committees. Many things have changed over the last few years, electronic bidding and the optimal number of live auction items as two examples. The timeline and order of events should often also be looked at as well as the structure of your dedicated ask.
Every event has its own dynamics and your auctioneer should be able to advise you as to the best way to maximize your goals. Allow me to offer a free consultation.”
Biography
Charles Wickins was born in London and educated at St. Andrews and Harrow. After a short stint in Australia, Charles returned to England at 21 and started a career as a car auctioneer.
Over the next 10 years he auctioned on average three times a week, but also ran two different auctions, before moving to the USA to help the company expand.
For several years, Charles managed the auction business and conducted the occasional charity auction. Recently he saw a need for quality auctioneers at charity events. So he honed his skills and worked with several committees to help the charities, and also to understand how to make their events the best, most memorable, and profitable they could be.
Now Charles is a well-known, frequently requested auctioneer for many large and small organizations throughout Southeast Michigan. He even offers a satisfaction guarantee – although no one has taken him up on it yet!
